Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: he was laughing at her.
'Come on, you can do better than that!' he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room.
The second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest.
The laughter had not quite died from his face, but his eyes widened in shock.
Harry released Neville, though he was unaware of doing so. He was jumping down the steps again, pulling out his wand, as Dumbledore, too, turned towards the dais.
It seemed to take Sirius an age to tall: his body curved in a graceful arc as he sank backwards through the ragged veil hanging from the arch.
Harry saw the look of mingled fear and surprise on his godfathers wasted, once-handsome face as he fell through the ancient doorway and disappeared behind the veil, which fluttered for a moment as though in a high wind, then fell back into place.
Harry heard Bellatrix Lestrange's triumphant scream, but knew it meant nothing — Sirius had only just fallen through the archway, he would reappear from the other side any second . . .
But Sirius did not reappear.
'SIRIUS!' Harry yelled. 'SIRIUS!'
He had reached the floor, his breath coming in searing gasps. Sirius must be just behind the curtain, he, Harry, would pull him back out . . .
But as he reached the ground and sprinted towards the dais, Lupin grabbed Harry around the chest, holding him back.
There's nothing you can do, Harry — '
'Get him, save him, he's only just gone through!'
' — it's too late, Harry.'
'We can still reach him — ' Harry struggled hard and viciously, but Lupin would not let go . . .
There's nothing you can do, Harry . . . nothing . . . he's gone.'

This is great! The only problem I have with it is Lupin. He looks like a giant finger. :o

Actually, the second spell aimed at Sirius that wound up hitting him -did not have a color listed-. Instead, JKR described how Sirius reacted to being hit by the spell. As his facial expression matched the typical Avada Kedavra expression, and as his "body" arced backward (he was dead before he hit the veil), the spell that hit him was the green Killing Curse and not a red spell.
So the comic is innacurate.
:iconharry-potter-spain:
Avada Kedavra kills the victim immediately, not letting anyone "react to being hit" or "laugh". Canon doesn't specify the colour, so assuming it was green and the killing curse is way too far fetched. We have the same about it being an AK evidence than claiming it was the tickling spell. :D
It is stated "the second jet of light", the first was red, so the second has to be either necessarily red or a not relevant colour, otherwise she would have expressed it differently. (And besides, what's the literary point of the veil itself if its purpose was not killing Sirius?) :O
JKR herself stated several times in many interviews that Sirius' death was caused by him falling through the archway with the veil due to Bellatrix's spell, not due to the killing nature of the spell itself.
The comic simply sticks literally to canon (with a small license adding extra dialog) ;)

Sirius laughed before the spell hit him.

"Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: he was laughing at her.
'Come on, you can do better than that!' he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room."

The description of Sirius' face after the second spell is classic Avada Kedavra. Watch:

Goblet of Fire, page 4. Chapter: The Riddle House.

"... The doctors did note (as though determined to find something wrong with the bodies) that each of the Riddles had a look of terror upon his or her face - but, as

Three muggles, petrified by the fact that magic indeed existed and the life was being wiped from their bodies.

Goblet of Fire, page 216. Chapter: The Unforgivable Curses.

"So that was how his parents had died.. exactly like that spider. Had they been unblemished and unmarked too? Had they simply seen the flash of green light and heard the rush of speeding death, before life was wiped from their bodies?"

Sirius' body was unmarked, unscathed, and arced backward. If it was a spell to knock the victim unconscious, or otherwise cause them harm, he'd have dropped like a stone rather than fall backward like a limp ragdoll.

Goblet of Fire, page 638. Chapter: Flesh, Blood, and Bone:

"For a second that contained an eternity, Harry stared into Cedric's face, at his open gray eyes, blank and expressionless as the windows of a deserted house, at his half-open mouth, which looked slightly surprised.. "

Cedric's face registered surprise and emptiness, his death was sudden.

Back to Sirius:

""And Harry saw the look of -mingled fear and surprise- on his godfather's wasted, once-handsome face.. *snip* "

All of the signs of death, as expressed by the three Riddles, Cedric Diggory, and Sirius Black, all describe the same things.
Their facial expression is said to be 'surprised' and 'terrified/fearful' in appearance. The rush of impending death coming at you along with that infamous flash of green light would terrify anyone, and take you by surprise as no one expects to be murdered. Especially Sirius, who was notoriously hard-headed, stubborn, and a risk-taker.
An unconscious body, as I stated earlier, will slump to the ground in a certain way. A dead body with the life being rushed out of it by a green light, will probably arc backwards just as Sirius' did. His eyes were also wide open, staring, and slightly fearful; they would have been closed if it was a Stunner.
Even in the heat of battle, Sirius dared Bellatrix to "do better" than the first spell she shot at him.
Which leads me back to the opening sentences:
"Only one couple were still battling, apparantly unaware of the new arrival. Harry saw Sirius duck Bellatrix's jet of red light: He was laughing at her: "Come on, you can do better than that!" he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room.
The second jet of light hit him squarely on the chest."

Sirius dared Bellatrix to do better than the first spell, so what would be better than sending the ultimate in spells, the Killing Curse, to take his life?

I have yet to see JKR state, anywhere, that the veil kills. It is an archway where the dead pass onto the "otherworld". Sirius was dead even before he hit the veil, as evident by his classic A.K. expression and the way his lifeless body fell backward.
:iconcoljoo:
Whatever colour the spell is supposed to be, the picture is awesome Harry. You know the book better then anyone I know, and frankly, I have always figured the veil killed Sirius because if he was killed with the AK then it would have been more straight forward. This is not a place to debate the book however, its to say how good I think your picture is. Its awesome! I love the comic book aspect of it.
